Brothers James and Erik

Erik is the elder of the pair by five years.  He is naturally a very calm and gentle person but that calm shields a dark core that is willing to do anything if he's crossed - even harm his own brother if need be.

James is, of course, the younger of the pair.  He has a natural gift with magic - called Power in their world - and is a sadistic, cunning little backstabbing bastard who tries to be as dark as he can.  In reality he's something of a coward and has only come forward with his other traits since he discovered his Power.

Sarah is the love of Erik's life and two years younger than him.  James, however, always envied his brother's happiness and used his Power to cause Erik to drive Sarah away.

The Thief, Carus, and the Girl, Kara

Carus is a thief of some caliber who lives by his own personal rules, not caring much about the fate of others.  He was found as a babe on the streets and raised by Ventin Squall, leader of a group of thieves.  He rescues the girl Kara through a fit of his conscience after he burns down a building and she becomes attached to him after that.  Over time he comes to love her but that doesn't change much about his character unless it involves her.  He has a normal enough appearance on first glance with his dark hair and amber eyes that can be mistaken for brown but also bears a pair of dark feathered wings extending from above his hips that are capable of short flights and gliding as well as the long, sharp nails on his feet.

Kara Sigel is four years younger than Carus with short-cropped auburn hair and dark eyes and fell in love with him the moment he saved her life.  She managed to hang around him, integrating herself into his group of thieves, and found herself first under his training then in his bed as his lover.  His nickname for her is "lil'bit" - which he claims means "Little Bitch" - but she knows that its the only real term of endearment she's ever going to get out of him.

Ventin and Miralla are Carus and Kara's twin children who have their father's dark hair and mother's dark eyes.  Ventin was named after Carus' mentor and only father-figure Ventin Squall and Miralla was named for Kara's mother who died in prison after taking the fall for her daughter's theft.  Both possess wings like their father but only Miralla gained them fully; her brother's ceased growing and are around the size of a hawk's and he does not possess the toe claws like his father and sister.

The Girl, Ziggy, and the Boy, Varin

Ziggy is a teenager who looks at the world with a weird gaze, seeing everything weird that there is.  She is rarely ever seen without a sandwich, which is always the strange combination of peanut butter and tuna fish.

Varin is Ziggy's best friend and about as sane and drab as they come.  There's no real logical reason for him to be friend's with her with them being so different but he is nonetheless.

Terrence, a Man

Terrence Guthrie is a man who is originally seen after being knifed in an alleyway and has a run-in with Death, who proclaims that he is not slated to die just yet.  After this, he believes it to have been a dream but after seeing Death several more times he knows it was not.  In the end he sees the being frequently as his young daughter catches a sudden plague that affects their world, followed by his wife until finally seeing him for his own death after twenty years suffering from an unknown weakening ailment.

Death is a being that comes to collect the souls of the dead as they pass from the world, he does not kill them but is simply a collector (as well as liking a good game of chess and having a strange fondness for apples).  He bears the strange appearance of a fifteen-year-old youth dressed in a large black cloak with dark mousy hair and a pale, round face with all-white eyes that glow with knowledge to break a mere man's mind as well as an ancient, dark voice that does not fit with his seeming youth.

The Guthrie Family (aside Terrence) was made up of his daughter Julia who dies at age six, his wife Kallie who dies a year later, and his son William who survives the plague alongside his father and lives to see Death come for Terrence.

Walker, the Assassin's Son

Walker is the son of an assassin who does not wish to be one at all with brown eyes and pale hair.  He manages to escape from his father's plans for him with the help of his mother but does not get away unscathed; he ends up with a vicious patch of scarred flesh on his left thigh where his father tore it to the bone with his blade that bothers him periodically (mostly in the morning).

Marie is a crimson-haired, dark eyed woman somewhere in her late thirties to early forties that runs a bar across from Walker's apartment and has the strange innate ability to tell what sort of person someone is.  She knows he is a good person despite his father's legacy and training and treats him as such, going so far as to defend him when she can.

Kaja and Algis are Walker's parents, both of whom are now deceased.  His mother was killed by his father after she made to help her son escape from becoming the same monster as his father.  Algis hunted his son down eventually and made to kill him since him running ruined his reputation and contracts since he had no successor but ended up dying upon his own blade at his son's hand.

Carina 'Ziggy' Redhammer, the Dwarf

Carina is a dwarf medic who was abandoned to the foster system after her father's death.  She ended up growing up on the streets amongst a gang but still managing to get her medical license despite all that.  By the trait of her brashness, she alienates many of those she works with and is transferred to another city onto a police force special group that is forming.

Eric Wilkins is a human medic who becomes good friends with Carina in their work and even goes with her to a bar that caters mostly to non-humans run by a gnoll named Gry without fear.

Dog and Johnson O'Grady are the two other members of the police force special group that Carina is forced into.  Dog is a half-orc police officer that is rather prone to jumping head-on into situations in amazing ways (such as jumping out of a van that has skidded onto his side and crushing a gnome he lands on) and Johnson is an Irish and very human detective that enjoys alcohol almost as much as Carina does.

Lucia, the Girl With a Beast

Lucia is a young woman cursed with a monster inside her  that she is in a constant struggle against to keep her humanity.  She is well positive that if she believes she can stay human, she won't become a monster like her maker.

Kendin is an elegant, handsome man who hides a monster underneath well-tailored and expensive suits and he is the one that cursed Lucia with the same monster.
