FIC: An Afternoon Discovery + RP

The steady, warm thrum of Orgrimmar was soothing as Hresden perched on top of a wooden pole near the base of the flight tower, his boots resting on the part of it carved with words in Orcish.  Smiling, he tilted his head back and just listened to the city moving around him, finding it a far better focus than anything he could think of whilst meditating in silence as his old teachers had told him.

Quel'thalas had been home but even it had seemed stuffy and he'd found himself more at home in the wilds his sister explored.  Even if his gifts did lie more in the arcane arts.

Theramore was more like Orgrimmar than Quel'thalas was but...the humans there had never truly taken much of a liking to the High Elf refugee's in their town.  Which was why he'd spent most of his time in the tower with the other mage's, studying his craft.  He'd been happy to be rid of that place, even if it meant switching his allegiances.  Not that it mattered to him as his sister was his allegiance.

Orgimmar...he didn't quite know what is was about the city that he liked.  Silvermoon was far too peaceful for his liking, as was Thunder Bluff.  And the Undercity...there was something sinister going on in that city, he could feel it in his bones.  Perhaps it was the homey hustle and bustle that he liked about Orgrimmar, beings of every race dashing here and there every moment of the day, all going about their own business.

Strange to think a High Elf raised in the pleasantness of Quel'thelas would find himself more in love with the simple but sturdy nature of the Orcish home city than his birthplace.

Hresden chuckled at his own thoughts and leaned forward so his elbows rested on his knees, watching the movements around the always busy auction house.  One passing Blood Elf gave him a strange look and he just smiled at her, to which she turned her nose up and continued on, her robes swishing in the dusty streets.  He sighed after her and shook his head, recognizing her as a fellow practicer of the arcane arts.  Most of them couldn't quite understand his abhorrence of wearing robes, far preferring a tunic of some kind along with practical pants and boots.

He'd found it really laughable when one had told him that robes showed others that they were practitioners of the arts.  Actually...he seemed to recall laughing in her face.  Robes showing they were practitioners of the arts!  HA!  He could show someone that easily by conjuring a ball of fire.

Sighing, he cupped his chin in his hands and sat, his green eyes flicking across the crowd below him.  As such...he caught sight of something small flashing as it fell from a passing female Blood Elf's pouch.

Jumping down, he rushed over to snatch it up before it was trampled and rose again to get her attention.  But she was lost behind the bulk of several passing Tauren and he frowned, looking down at the object in his palm.  He brushed dust from it and turned it over, discovering it to be an old, Elven-made ring of some elegance.

With shock, he recognized the symbol carved into the rings surface and realized that he had seen this very ring before.

His sister carried one small keepsake she had managed to save during the destruction of Quel'thalas - a small portrait of their parents, their father standing regally behind their mother, her stomach slightly swollen.  And on the hand that laid possessively on their mother's shoulder had been this ring; a ring engraved ever carefully with the symbol of the Sylindaal family that they had earned in years past.

Shocked, he stood in the middle of the street, hand clenched around the ring.  If...if someone had this ring, that meant...someone knew where his father had disappeared to just after his birth.  Perhaps...perhaps even the one that had dropped it was...

His heart skipped a beat at the thought of having a younger sibling.  That was the only logical reasoning he could think of for someone to have his father's ring - all the others ended in murder and the ring being stolen, and he liked none of them.  But  why hadn't they sought out him or Lymalis?  Surely...surely if they had a sibling, they would have been told of them.  Or had their father been ashamed of his previous children?

Shaking his head, Hresden sighed and moved out of the middle of the street, still scanning the crowd for the female Blood Elf.  Failing at finding her again, he tucked the ring into one of the pouches on his belt and began the walk towards the flight tower, pulling a few coins for the flight master out.  Last he'd heard, his sister was somewhere in Mulgore looking for a bit of peace and quiet after her latest attack and near draining of a young druid.  He needed to go tell her about this.

They had a sibling.

And the Sylindaal's did not abandon family on any account.

Elumiel carefully made her way through the city of Orgrimmar, sidestepping the knots of various races, ducking neatly out of the way of a group of Taurens. Her eyes scanned the area, smiling slightly as she saw a Blood Elf perched atop a pole, as if he were a totem. She shook her head, long red hair spilling over her shoulder, and continued on her way.

She'd been told that there was someone, somewhere in the city, who could identify a certain artifact of hers. No one in Silvermoon City that she'd spoken to could, or were willing to, at least, and the other cities of the Horde felt wrong to her, somehow. Hell, Silvermoon felt wrong to a woman who had grown up in the Outlands. Only on the reopening of the dark portal had she been allowed to come to the home of her parents, whoever they were. And that's what she was here to find out. No one had known the name of her parents, only that they had stumbled into Garadar with a young Elumiel in their arms. Not long after they had been taken in as refugees, the two adults had collapsed from wounds they could no longer sustain. Hours later, they had died, leaving Elumiel an orphan.

It hadn't been so bad growing up. There had been a Blood Elf family with a son a little older than Elumiel, named Anyu. They were the only elves in the village, and had grown up together, until Anyu had disappeared without a trace, leaving her behind to wonder if she'd done something wrong.

Not long ago, she had found Anyu again. And swore she would never lose him again. She didn't know where he was at the moment - she had told him to meet her in Orgrimmar - but she wanted to do this by herself. What if she had relatives? Any family at all? She reached into her pouch for the signet ring... and froze, eyes widening. Frantically, she tore the pouch from her hip and dug through it, cursing in Orcish and Thalassian, tears streaming down her face.

She'd lost the ring. Her one last hope of finding her remaining family. With a solid thud, she fell to her knees, her back pressed against the wall of some building or another, and closed her eyes. If she'd lost it in the rush of Orgrimmar, chances were, she'd never see it again. And that meant she would never know who her parents - or her family - were.

Hresden had no problem tracking down his sister, having gone with her enough on hunts to learn a fair helping of tracking. It wasn't often he could put the skill to use but when if could it helped out a great deal.

He found her slumped in the branches of a tree, her bow and sword hanging from a limb as she dozed far off the ground. Kydah, her constant companion since childhood, rose and greeted him with a hearty purr. Smiling, he rubbed her ears in the way he knew she liked then said loudly, "Its not safe to sleep in trees, you know."

"Its equally not safe to sneak up on people," responded Lymalis. She sat up and brushed her short hair into place, her glowing eyes fixing on him. "What are you doing out here, little brother?"

Hresden frowned and replied, "I have something to show you, Lymmi. Something...worrisome."

She rolled her eyes at that and slid down out of the tree, landing in a crouch in front of him. "What has gotten you in such a bind, Hres? There's nothing..." The ring he abruptly held up stilled her into silence and she snatched it from him, gasping, "Where did you get this?!"

"It fell from a Sin'dorei's pouch in Orgrimmar," he explained. "I lost sight of her, unfortunately."

"You didn't search?!"

Hresden grimaced and replied, "I felt it a better task to come after you. With two of us, we can search for her in Orgrimmar far easier than just the one of us." Kydah made an annoyed growl at that and he amended, "Very well, three of us instead of one."

Lymalis scowled then sighed, saying, "A fair enough point. I still wish you'd just sent someone after me instead of coming yourself, little brother."

"There was no one. And this is a family matter, Lymmi."

"Fair enough," she said softly, handing him back the ring. "Hang on to that." She quickly retrieved her sword and bow from the tree branch, slinging both over her shoulder and starting towards the heights of Thunder Bluff. Kydah bounded after her and Hresden followed in the big cat's wake, hoping that the Blood Elf that had dropped the ring still remained in Orgrimmar.

Elumiel slowly unfolded herself and stumbled through the crowd, nearly blind for the tears blurring her vision. Somehow she found the inn, and, within it, the bartender. "Whatever you've got that's the strongest. I don't care if it tastes like kodo piss," she said flatly, her usual lilt gone with her misery.

She handed him coins, and he handed her a tankard of the strongest booze he had. She downed it all in a few long gulps, slammed the glass down and placed some more coins on the table. "Keep 'em comin' until I'm good and drunk," she said. He grunted at her, and she knew he thought that a bad idea, but she was paying, so he didn't care much.

Elumiel silently thought he should have stopped her. A drunk mage was not a good idea. But she'd lost her father's signet ring, and so she didn't care one bit. She'd been warned, when she'd started her training, that to imbibe could mean death at the wrong time. She rather thought death would have been better than the hell she'd somehow brought upon herself.

All she'd wanted was to find her family. And now that was taken from her, along with everything else she'd lost. Grimacing, El drained two more tankards, paid what she owed, and stumbled out of the tavern toward the only place she could see as being a form of shelter for a fire mage - the bonfire beside the entrance to the city.

Her vision blurred, but the heat of the fire dried the tears that continued to fall. Instead of expending her magic to create fire, she just borrowed what was already there, creating small fireballs that she lobbed at the ground, well away from the crowds she could vaguely make out. It helped her, a little. Destroying things was, apparently, the one thing El was good at.

Hresden and Lymalis arrived in Orgrimmar around the same time, though he still could not fathom how a wyvern managed to carry both his sister and her cat. But they were both there at landing, Kydah flicking her tail and his sister glancing around with narrowed eyes, their glow casting strange shadows across her face.

"Where do we start?" she asked.

Hresden pointed down at the pole at the base of the flight tower and replied, "I was there when I saw her and...what?" He scowled at her disapproving look and snapped, "You know I do not care a whit about what other practitioners think of me. Or most anyone else."

"Perching on top of the signpost is still silly," commented Lymalis as she started down the ramp towards the bottom of the tower. He sighed and followed after her, not even bothering to continue with the old argument of her thinking he should act more like the other mages and him not wanting to act like something he wasn't. If he wanted to perch on the damned signpost, well he would perch on it and everyone that looked at him funny could deal with it.

"I'll look forward," he said as they reached the bottom of the tower, gesturing towards the always open Orgrimmar gates. "That leaves you the other way."

"Kydah, search between, dearheart," purred Lymalis, rubbing the big cat behind the ears. A purr answered her and with a flick of her tail she bounded off, her partner heading on her own path a moment later on nearly silent feet. Hresden frowned after them, still a bit annoyed, and strode in his chosen direction.

Absently he conjured a small fireball and toyed with it as he walked, passing the bonfire and the bank up as he continued on towards the entranceway. He was still too annoyed to really notice his surroundings.

Kydah wandered back around the bank, dodging around the hooves of Tauren then yowled as a fireball exploded in front of her nose. Twitching singed whiskers, she looked up at the culprit with a snarl starting in her throat that immediately died.

Padding towards the Blood Elf sitting next to the fire, she sat down and nudged her head against the drunken Elf's shoulder. Despite the stench of alcohol on her and the reek of the fireballs, she could smell something familiar on the being in front of her - something that had the scent of her partner and the boy.

Purring, she laid down and waited to see which of the two would arrive first.

Elumiel blurredly watched passersby, still tossing fireballs around, though they became smaller and smaller as she lost her grip on her magic. Eventually she just gave up, but it was only when she felt warmth not from the fire, but from a different source, that she stopped. She looked down, squinting slightly, trying to make out the shape beside her. "Hello there," she slurred, then placed a hand over her mouth. "Oh, dear. I've gone and done it, then. Drank too much."

She looked around, noting that her eyes were starting to clear up. She hadn't drunk as much as she'd thought she had, then. Good. "Now, who looks to you, hm?" she asked the furry mass. "You're a pretty thing. Almost rival my Anyu's Shiro, you would." A pause, and she giggled. "I say almost, because, well, Shiro is a very prideful cat." She turned around where she sat and frowned, looking at all over the pockmarks she'd made. "Oh, my. I've been bad, hm?" she asked the feline. "I suppose no one's going to notice a few more burn marks next to a fire. Besides, it's not like there's anything growing here. Except a bunch of rock."

She conjured herself some water, then, and poured a small amount into her hand, offering it to the cat. Elumiel was mildly surprised it drank it, but shrugged and then tipped the canteen back. More of the water ended up on her head than was necessary, but it was chilly, freshly conjured, and it knocked some sense into her. What made it to her stomach helped against any potential hangover, or so she'd figured when it worked the first time she'd tried it.

"Your companion sure is taking a while, aren't they?" she asked the big cat in a low voice, automatically rubbing the cat behind it's ears, just as she'd done to Shiro on countless occasions since she'd rediscovered Anyu. "I guess we'll just sit here and wait, then."

Kydah purred at the offered water and closed her eyes contentedly at the rubbing behind her ears. She flicked her tail around her haunches and decided that she liked this one.

"Kydah!" exclaimed Hresden as he saw the big cat lying by the fire. Jogging forward, he opened his mouth to continue scolding her but the words left him as he saw the Blood Elf she was sitting next to. He stood there, stunned, for a long moment then shook himself and dug into one of the pouches at his belt.

"I believe you dropped this earlier," he said kindly as he dropped to one knee next to her. As he did, he looked at her with a calculating gaze, trying to find anything resembling himself in her. She was young, he could tell that much, and there was perhaps some resemblance there. He couldn't really tell, however, as he rarely studied his own face and Lymalis more resembled their mother.

Lymalis, meanwhile, kicked her boots in the dirt and cursed harshly in Thalassian. Grumbling under her breath, she strode back the way she had come, her glowing eyes trying to seek out her brother amongst the crowds.

It took Elumiel a moment to register what the Blood Elf male was holding out. When it finally clicked in her head, her eyes widened, and the tears threatened to well up again. "My father's ring!" she exclaimed. "Where...where did you find it?" she asked, hurriedly wiping away the few tears that managed to spill down her cheeks. "I was so worried I'd lost it for good," she stammered, reaching out for it with shaking hands.

"I'm sorry... is she yours?" she asked him, gesturing toward the cat. "What did you say her name was... Kydah? That's a lovely name," she said, smiling hesitantly. "I'm sorry, but you look familiar. Weren't you... sitting on top of the signpost earlier?" she asked, frowning slightly as she tried to make his features out in the blur. Absently, she offered Kydah another drink of water.

She could tell he was examining her, but for what purpose, she couldn't really guess. Probably to figure out exactly how drunk she was. Or why she was sitting practically on top of a roaring bonfire. Quite likely even both. She figured it was fairly obvious that she'd been drinking heavily. Grimacing, she took another long drink of water, and, on looking at it to discover it was empty, she summoned more, hearing the satisfying sound of water rushing to fill the space.

Hresden smiled and replied, "I saw you drop it earlier and tried to return it to you...but you were long gone. And, yes, I was the one sitting on the signpost earlier."

Kydah purred happily at the next offered drink of water and he smiled, rubbing her ears. "No, she's not mine, I'm afraid. Though I have known her my entire life as she belongs to my sister."

He noted that she was a mage just like him from the summoning of the water and smiled a little. Then he looked pointedly at the ring then up at her, asking, "May I inquire as to where you got that ring?"

Lymalis scowled as she found herself lost - yes, LOST - in Orgrimmar. Cursing, she kicked at some rocks and sank against one of the buildings with a growl.

She was NOT a city person at all - the wilds and nature attracted her far more than anything else. More than likely she should have just told Hresden to come back and search without her. Or at least taken Kydah with her and not separated from the big cat, who could navigate far better than she could.

Shoving off of the building, she looked around then shrugged and marched off in the hope that the road would lead her back towards the flight tower at least.

"Your sister? Ah," she said, smiling slightly before scrunching her fingers into Kydah's fur. She thought about the ring, gazing down at it, turning it between her fingers, seeing it, but not really taking it in. "Where I got it?" she asked quietly.

"I guess you could say... my father. But not really. You see, I was born in the Outlands, and raised in Nagrand. The villagers told me that my parents died not long after they arrived. They were... badly wounded." She grimaced, remembering her youth. "The countryside is not the safest place to be, and they drew too much attention. I was too young to remember." She stopped, took in a shaky breath. "There weren't many Blood Elves there. One couple, with a son about my age. They helped raise me. Most of the people just ignored us." She snorted, then shook her head, clearing it of the myriad memories, before flashing him a small smile.

"Anyway, long story short, the healer who tried to help my parents kept their belongings, and when I left for training, she gave them to me. My father's ring, my mother's jewelry. A few other things, but nothing useful, except this," she said, holding the ring up, her eyes tracing the signet she knew all too well by now. Her thumb traced the serpent as it coiled around what she could only describe as a tree. She wondered what it symbolized, if anything. She'd always thought it odd that the serpent was eating it's own tail, but what could she say? She hadn't designed the signet, after all.

Outlands. Hresden frowned, the word ringing through his head. He knew that signet - it WAS his father's, no doubt about that. But how had it ended up in Outland?

He vaguely recalled a group of humans and High Elves going through the Dark Portal some twenty years ago or so. They had closed it behind them and supposedly many of them had been found again when it reopened. Had his father been in that group? And why?

That still would have been some twenty years between when he'd left them the closing of the Portal. Where had he been for those years? Sighing, he realized that there were likely no answers to most of the questions he had always had.

He looked at her tracing the symbols of the signet for a moment, listening to her talk, to spoke when she was finished.

"The tree," he said softly, "is so we remember that we come from the Highbourne, the Night Elves - though it is a tree to more remember those that respected nature than the Highbourne that preferred the arcane arts. And the snake is in honor of the one that earned the crest, a weak mage who turned to being a rogue and created poisons from snake venom."

Smiling weakly, he met her eyes and continued, "Its the Sylindaal crest. And...and I believe you're my sister."

"Anar'alah belore!" exclaimed Lymalis as she finally figured out where she was by stumbling across the bridge that led to the flight tower. "I cannot get out of this city quickly enough!"

As she crossed the bridge, she thought she spotted her brother. And she definitely spotted Kydah.

But who was the girl...

Eyes widening, she took off at a run down the ramp, jostling past those coming up it.

Elumiel barely - and only barely - registered what the man sitting next to her had said. Even then, it still took her a moment to actually understand. Could she have really found relatives, through some strange twist of fate? She backtracked mentally, replaying his words about the signet in her mind, slowly, as if she were savoring them. After a moment, she pulled a battered and folded paper from her pouch, and carefully flattened it out.

"This was in my mother's journal. She never wrote down a family name, or even my father's name. Only her name... Amaliera. But they said this is what my parents looked like," she said, showing him the portrait. "They didn't have very much in the way of items." She pulled out the journal, as well, running her hands gently over the beaten and blood-stained cover.

Smiling grimly, she flipped to the last few pages and pointed to it. "She wrote that they lost most of their equipment in a battle. I read through the whole thing. They were trapped in Outlands, with no way of returning. They died before the portal was reopened. I'm...not sure they would have returned. She wouldn't say, but I assume that she married only when it was clear that there would be no returning from the Outlands."

"I guess it's clearer now. My parents were married when they knew they couldn't return. If my... our... father kept a journal, it did not make it to Garadar with them. We... don't actually know when I was born. There's no way of telling exactly how old I am." She gave a kind of laugh, hesitant and nervous at best.

Hresden's eyes widened at the portrait, his hands shaking as he took it from her. He did not recognize the female Elf in the it but...yes, the male was certainly his father. And there was the signet ring again...

Leaning forward, he peered at the pages of the journal, wishing that this woman had written something more. Or that his father had had a journal and it had ended up in this girl's hands.

"I see," he said softly. Carefully he handed the portrait back to her and breathed, "We are siblings - half at least. Your father...OUR father..." He trailed off and shook his head, half-trembling with a sudden anger at the father he'd never known and who had abandoned his family. The father he would never know now it seemed. Taking a deep breath brought back his control and he looked at her, continuing, "If you were born before the Portal, which I'd venture is slim as only a mad soul would have taken a child through that, you would be twenty. As I venture you were born after...probably a year...I would say you were eighteen."

"You're..." He paused and smiled, finishing, "Anar'alah belore! Where are my manners? I'm..."

"HRESDEN!"

He looked up at the shout, seeing a swath of red hair and glowing green eyes coming at him, and smiled gently at El. "That would be me," he said softly. "And that is Lymalis, my - OUR sister."

Lymalis stormed up to them, her mouth open to say something, but was cut off as she caught a glimpse of the folded portrait. Her eyes widened at the sight of her father's face and she quickly looked from her brother to the Blood Elf, rendered somewhat speechless now.

Startled at the appearance of another Blood Elf, Elumiel jumped from her seat, backwards, and into the bonfire. She yelped at the first touch of flame on her feet and cast a fire ward, taking a few moments to calm herself down. It was only when she saw that her precious portrait was in danger that she leaped forward, snatched it up, and clutched it to her chest, her eyes wide.

A few more moments, and she was calmer, though not by much. So much had happened in the short time she'd been in Orgrimmar, and she didn't know what to make of any of it. When she felt she had herself under better control, she carefully folded the portrait and placed it back in her pouch. "I... I'm Elumiel," she said numbly, her gaze going from Lymalis to Hresden and back again.

She looked down to Kydah and, deciding that the feline was the safest choice, she took her seat again, but a little closer to the fire. She rubbed the big cat behind her ears, finding herself relaxing at the gesture. She often felt better when she took the time to pet her kitten, Ghost. Why should a big cat be any different?

After a few moments of quiet thought, she looked up suddenly. "Why did they go through the portal?" she asked. No one had ever told her the reasons behind it. No one in Garadar, except for Anyu's parents, had known. And that pair of Blood Elves weren't talking. And wouldn't, in all likelihood, even now. "They knew what they were leaving behind, but they must have thought it important enough." She pointed at the journal. "My mother never said why. I don't think she felt she needed to write it down. But...why else would someone leave their family?" she asked softly. To herself, she wondered why they had allowed her to be born, when her mother must have known that the man she'd married had children beyond the portal.

And those children stood in front of her now. She wondered what they expected of her. And wondered what she expected of them. She'd come to find family...and she had, though not quite how she'd expected it. Two half-siblings... how much older than her were they?

Hresden cried out in alarm as she accidentally leapt too close to the bonfire but breathed a sigh of relief as he saw a fire ward form around her, protecting her from the flames. He held himself perfectly still until she was seated again, seeing Lymalis having the same reaction.

Kydah purred at the attention, rubbing her head against El's hand. She really like this one...

Lymalis frowned and said softly, "We've never known why he left. He just vanished without a word, taking only that ring and clothes with him." She scowled as she looked at the ring again - yes, it was what had brought them to her but it was Hresden's by right as the son of their family to have it. That their father had taken it and could have deprived him of that annoyed her to no end.

Hresden shook his head and said, "We can't know the why's...not without them to tell us. All we can really do, I think, is continue on from this point." He then looked around and added, "It would also probably be best if we moved this somewhere else that's not in the middle of the city..."

"And where do you suggest going, little brother?"

"Anywhere that isn't as easily eavesdropped on as this one, Lymmi," he replied with a scowl.

Elumiel sat in silence again for a long while. She listened to the fire crackling at her back, and the contented purrs from the feline, and the hustle and bustle of the city. Quiet was what they needed. The city was too crowded and noisy. "I... have a place, in Silvermoon. There are so many places that aren't being used. No one minded when I took a small one for myself. It's warded... I had help with that," she said, smiling slightly. "There's only one person who might come in unannounced, and I don't think Anyu would be in the city. He... doesn't like it very much."

She glanced at the ring, and closed her eyes, sighing softly. She'd held onto that ring for many long years. How many had it been? Enough, she knew. She'd left for training two or three years after Anyu had disappeared. A bitter smile crept over her face. He had disappeared on her, without a word, and only fate had brought them back together. She knew how these two felt, to have a loved one just...leave.

Elumiel rose slowly and turned around, her back to her half-siblings. She seemed to be speaking to the bonfire, but they would know that wasn't the case. "I wish I could tell you more, about what happened to m-... our father. But... I never even knew his name. All I was told was that Lost Ones attacked while they were taking me to safety. It was a miracle we made it at all. At the end of her journal, one of the healers described what state they were in, what she did to help. She said my mother named me, before she died. They don't know how I made it without a single wound."

She sighed and shook her head slowly. "There have been times, out there," here she made a wide gesture upward, to indicate the Outlands, "that I wish I had not survived. Blood Elves are not exactly the most welcome sight, where I was raised." She laughed, but it was sullen and dry. Her hand passed through the fire, as if she were testing to make sure she was, in fact, real.

After a few seconds, she straightened up her back, raised her chin slightly, defiantly. "But I am alive. I have no more answers for you than you probably do for me. But answers we do have for each other, can be given in the relative safety of my current residence, if you would like."

Hresden nodded immediately even though he didn't like staying in Silvermoon. Quiet was what they needed and if the city could give it, he'd accept that. Lymalis frowned for a moment then nodded as well, sighing lightly.

"Esterin," she said softly. "That was our father's name."

Hresden smiled then murmured, "Lead on, Elumiel."

Kydah rose to her feet and purred loudly but didn't move to her partner's side. Instead she stayed at Elumiel's and Lymalis accepted this with a nod towards her old companion. If anything, the big cat knew how to soothe people and if she liked someone, it usually meant her partner would like them as well.

Elumiel watched them for a moment, giving Kydah a gentle pat before reaching into her pouch for a rune the size of her palm. She traced its surface with one finger before murmuring a few words. Everyone had their own style for these particular spells, and she was no different. With the last word, she tossed the rune into the air, spinning it carefully, before it exploded outward. The fragments turned around gracefully in midair, creating a circle. In the center was a shimmering portal. "After you," she said to her newfound relatives. "It leads to my doorstep. A...minor modification to the original spell. I didn't think you would want to end up in the Spire." El smiled and shrugged slightly, stepping aside, feeding some of her power into the portal to keep it open until she could follow them through.

She lowered the portal just slightly to allow the big cat easier access, her smile broadening slightly when she did, and then, once they had all gone through, she did, as well, sealing the portal behind her.

The rune, now spent, fell to the ground in a thousand tiny fragments.

On the other side, she looked at them, nodding slightly, and stepped into the small building she'd claimed as her own. "Anyu?" she called into the shadows. No one answered, and she nodded, expecting this. "Come on in," she said to her half-siblings, gesturing for them to precede her into the next room.

Lymalis looked around with a nod and a smile, Kydah purring appreciatively as well. "A pleasant little place," she commented.

Upon entering the building, Hresden shuddered and ran a hand back through his hair. He liked the little place - it had a very homey feel to it - but that had never mattered to him. There was just something about Silvermoon...it was too quiet.

"Who is Anyu, if I may ask?" he said softly, looking sideways at Elumiel curiously.

Elumiel blushed slightly and shrugged one shoulder. "I grew up with Anyu. We were very close in age, and his was the only family like me in the village. He was my only friend." She smiled, but there was a touch of bitterness to it. "A little over seven years ago...almost eight, now, he'd disappeared. There was no trace of him, no sign, no word. Nothing. We stumbled across each other in this very city the day I arrived. I made him promise not to do that to me again."

She entered the room after them, gesturing toward the lamps that dangled around the small area. Their wicks lit with her touch of magic, and she kicked a few pillows into the center. "I've no chairs for you, I'm afraid. I have always preferred to sit on the ground."

"Its good that you found each other again," said Hresden with a smile. He then settled himself on one of the pillows and added, "Oh, sitting on the ground is no problem. If you hadn't notice, I was perched on a sign post not long ago."

"You are a strange, strange mage, little brother," muttered Lymalis as she took a seat as well. Kydah made a strange grumbling noise and wandered off to look at the rest of the place, making her partner smile after her. Then she turned towards Elumiel and asked, "Well...where shall we begin?"

Elumiel smiled at Hresden. A sign post indeed. "I had noticed. I wouldn't think that a very comfortable place to sit, but I imagine I've been in much worse positions before."

She took a seat not far from the others, watching the big cat as she ambled off, absently lighting the lamps in the hallway so she could keep an eye on the feline. Shiro had made quite a mess of some of the pillows, when Anyu had helped her to find the little place. She looked toward Lymalis, incling her head slightly. "The beginning, I suppose. The very beginning."

"It can be comfortable enough if you sit just right," said Hresden with a smile. "And there are indeed worse places to sit. Having to sleep on rocks for example..."

Lymalis watched Kydah out of the corner of her eye as well and nodded at Elumiel.

"Shall we begin at your beginning or ours? Though I suppose yours would be best...we might could fill in a few of the blank spots you have."

Anyu walked into Orgrimmar, with Shiro by his side. He didn't like these capital cities much, but Orgrimmar was by far the most tolerable. He paused at the entrance and looked around. Elumiel had told him to meet her in Orgrimmar, but never said where. With a sigh, he walked into the city.

After wandering the city for an hour, he gave up and took a seat on the roof of a building. He patted Shiro on the head softly, "Where could she be? I hope nothing bad happened to her..." She clearly was not in Orgrimmar. If she was, Shiro would have easily found her. Her absence worried him. With his delay, she should have been here already. Could she have already left? Would she leave without letting him know?
